A total fire ban has been issued throughout Algonquin Park.

Ontario Parks made the announcement on Tuesday, with the ban beginning on Wednesday that prohibits all open fires. Algonquin Park says this includes campgrounds, trails, backcountry campsites, picnic areas and cottages within Algonquin.

During a total ban, campfires aren’t allowed as well as charcoal or wood burning barbeques. Portable gas and propane stoves and barbeques can still be used by visitors.

The park says staff will be patrolling through the park on the water, on foot and in the air to make sure no illegal burning is happening. The ban will stay in place until further notice.
