One person dead after plane makes emergency landing on Ottawa River

Police say a diver has died after a plane had an emergency landing on the Ottawa River.

Upper Ottawa Valley OPP says on Friday evening a small private plane lost power and landed near Balmer Bay on the Ottawa River in Laurentian Hills. The lone occupant of the plane, who had taken off in Deep River, was able to safely swim to shore after sustaining minor injuries.

The next morning, police say a diver involved in the recovery effort of the plane was caught in a rope attached and was unable to surface. After numerous attempts, officials recovered the body later that day.
