Township Preparing Railway Station Tourism Centre for Summer Season

The Railway Station Tourism Centre in Barry’s Bay will be open this summer.

That’s according to Madawaska Valley Mayor Kim Love, who has been part of a township negotiating committee with the Madawaska Valley Heritage Society about the society overseeing day-to-day operations of the railway station. While no agreement has been made between the two sides yet, Love says getting the tourism centre open is the top priority.

Love says work has been done at the Railway Centre in the last few weeks to make sure it’s ready for use this summer.

She says that the basement at the railway station has now been cleaned as well and should pass a fire inspection without any issue.

Council also received over $3600 from the Summer Experience Program, which allows for one Visitor Centre Attendant to be hired for the summer through the township.

Love says the goal is to have the Railway Station Tourism Centre open by the upcoming long weekend.
