Flood watch in effect for Madawaska River and Ottawa River

A flood watch has been issued for the Madawaska River and Ottawa River in Renfrew County.

That’s according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, which says residents in Renfrew county should be aware that water levels and flows on the two rivers are rising rapidly because of quick melting snow and could exceed minor flooding levels later this week.

MNRF suggests that all residents should keep a close watch on conditions, and if you’re in an area that’s prone to flooding you should ensure sump pumps are working. It’s also suggested you tie down any items on your property that could float as water levels rise.

If you require sandbags for flooding, the MNRF suggests you reach out to your municipality.

If you’re driving and come across a washout, you should contact police.
