Hastings Highlands Council could make a move to limit the use of fireworks in the municipality.

An updated fireworks bylaw will be presented to council during its meeting on Wednesday. It includes steps to limit the use of fireworks to between 8:00pm and 11:00pm on 18 days of the year: The days of, before, and after New Year’s Eve, Victoria Day, Canada Day, American Independence Day, the Civic Holiday, and Labour Day.

It would also mean you couldn’t use fireworks in the municipality unless you’re over 30 metres away from any shoreline, vegetation line, or buildings. Other rules will also be included in the fireworks bylaw, which could be approved at Wednesday’s council meeting. It starts at 9:00am at the Hastings Highlands Centre in Maynooth.
