Council Exploring Options for Recreation and Fitness in Madawaska Valley

With the future of the Madawaska Valley Fitness Centre unknown, council is looking into options to keep recreation in Madawaska Valley going.

Following a report from Mayor Kim Love, it was revealed that more grants and alternative revenue would be explored to keep the Madawaska Valley Fitness Centre in operation.

However, Mayor Love says she’s not willing to fund the fitness centre with taxpayer dollars.

Councillor Elser Lee Archer put forth a motion to explore the viability of having the gym at the high school remain open for public recreation. Archer says recreation is important to residents in Madawaska Valley.

Archer says the township’s relationship with the school board could help with this.

The fitness centre currently runs weekly sports programs including volleyball, badminton and ball hockey and has been open since October 2015 through an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant.
