The Ministry of Municipal Affairs says the province will not be going ahead with plans requiring residents to regularly pump their septic systems.

The ministry says it’s due to the response from public consultations with residents and municipalities.

Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski says any rural resident knows a healthy septic system can run indefinitely.

Yakabuski reiterated the response on many municipal leaders, claiming the costs to residents for such a guideline would be too high for many.
