The OPP wants to remind sledders to keep safe while snowmobiling.
When out on the trails, it’s important to ride within your abilities, and adjust your speed depending on trail conditions.
Police are also asking you to ride on the right side of the trail, know the proper hand signals, and use extra caution during the evening or at night.
Police also remind you to follow the laws around snowmobiling, because if you don’t, you could get demerit points on your driver’s license.
The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is re-iterating the OPP’s warning as many clubs, including the Opeongo Snowbirds, are still preparing trails.
Areas near Whitney and Hastings Highlands have been under limited availability as local clubs have had a decent base of snow to work with.
The Snowbirds say the recent weather over Christmas downed trees on many of the trails.
