The Festival of Trees is on the horizon for Renfrew County and the Child Poverty Action Network is gearing up for its annual fundraiser.
The Snowflake Gala features dinner and a dance, local vendors offering items for auction and proceeds going back into the county to help local children in need.
Executive Director of CPAN Lyn Smith says the timing of the event is significant.
In November of 1989, rights were granted to children in Canada and a commitment was made by the federal government to begin efforts help eliminate child poverty.
CPAN offers five programs ranging from a snowsuit campaign – which helped keep over 400 kids in the county warm last year – to a program designed to foster creativity in arts and music.
Smith says she hopes to make a big impact this year after the last event raised over $31,000.
