The Bancroft OPP is doing what it can to make sure kids are safe when swimming.

Constable Philippe Regamey says drowning is the second leading cause of preventable death for children in Ontario.

Regamey says surveillance is very important to prevent drowning.

He says life jackets and personal flotation devices are always a good idea, especially for weak or beginner swimmers.

Regamey says parents are also being encouraged to learn CPR, and to enroll their children in swimming lessons.
